A change in hydraulic-oil appearance can start an oil analyysis or conversation process. But before comparing products, it helps to separate two questions: which oil does the machine need, and what does the oil already in service need?
Those questions lead to different decisions. A new lubricant, a bypass filter and a portable purifier each have a role. Starting with the rig and its working conditions makes the next conversation with a supplier more useful.
Start with the machine, then the product
For oil selection, gather the equipment manufacturer’s fluid requirements, the current oil’s name and grade, and the temperatures the rig encounters. Add any known changeover history. These details provide a starting point for comparing a candidate oil with the application.
BIO-SYN HEES 46 is one option in Geo Mines’ range: a synthetic ester hydraulic oil with zinc-free additives. Its product page describes more than 80% biodegradability in 28 days and lists ECOLOGO and Ecolabel EU references. Those are useful product attributes to discuss alongside the machine’s requirements.
If you are considering making a conversionto Bio Oil for a new project, bring the existing oil information to that discussion. Choosing a product and planning a changeover are related decisions.
Turn an observation into a useful record
“The oil looks different” is a starting point. A stronger record explains what changed, when it was first noticed, which machine was involved and what else happened around that time.
For example, note a visible change alongside recent top-ups, maintenance or a change in workload. Keep photographs and sample records tied to the same machine and date. A clear timeline helps the person investigating understand the situation.
Appearance alone does not identify the cause. If an oil-analysis report is available, include the complete report and its sampling context. That gives the discussion measured information rather than a conclusion drawn from a photograph.
Understand the treatment options
Geo Mines also supplies equipment for caring for oil already in service. Two examples illustrate why the job matters more than the product name.
GEN2 humidity filtration uses a high-density cellulose G2F cartridge. The product is designed to remove water and ultrafine particles down to 1 micron from hydraulic and lubrication oil.
This address water, so “filter for particles, purifier for water” is too simple a distinction. Compare the fluid, system volume, contamination findings and intended treatment arrangement. An ongoing bypass filter application treatment requirement can lead to different equipment discussions.
Make the first enquiry easy to understand
You do not need a long message. Organize the information you have around four points:
- The rig: machine identification and the relevant fluid requirements.
- The oil: product name, time in service and recent top-ups or changes.
- The evidence: what was observed, when, and any available analysis.
- The decision: selecting oil, reviewing treatment options or investigating a change.
For a treatment and lab analysis enquiry, you can start with our IND2 oil test bottles for a sample and extract status of your oil. Mark unknowns clearly so the next exchange can resolve them.
